Files shredded in mayor's office

.
"It was something that was not supposed to be done in the office. "

A secretary in Mayor Richard Daley's office testified today that she shredded two file drawers of documents related to hiring in 2002 at the direction of the mayor's patronage chief, Robert Sorich.
Patricia Molloy, who has worked in the mayor's office since shortly after Daley's election in 1989, said she used a shredder in the mayor's Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.
The destroyed documents contained lists of people seeking city jobs or promotions and their political sponsors, Molloy told jurors in the City Hall corruption trial.

'I just remember [Sorich] coming in and saying I should shred the files,' she said. More from the Tribune...
