Could Rogers Park Support a Farmers Market?

Farmers' work, challenges are always growing
Tribune
I'd ridden the "L" downtown Tuesday, thinking I'd write a sunny little ode to Chicago's summer romance with its farmers markets. The markets, which begin opening this week, are as close as many of us get to the part of the Midwestern soul that still resides in its soil. More......

Based on past experience, it hasn't been able to. There was an attempt for a few years to hold a farmers market at a few locations around Ashland and Howard and attendance was always pretty pitiful.

I love the idea, but I think it would be pretty hard to get anything much going, especially when Evanston has such a vibrant market.

hey joe-

thanx for stopping by. we go to the evanston market too and it's almost too successful, in my view. it's really packed and i'm sure with many of us from rogers park.

i beleive if our market were done well, with attention to quality produce and vendors, howard street could be shut down until 12 or 1 pm on a sunday east of the howard el. certainly the demographics noh and rp in general have changed since a few years ago.

it would take a genuine committment but i think it might be possible.
