Should anthem be only in English?
Saturday, May 13, 2006
To coincide with the May 1 immigrant rallies, some Latin American artists recorded a Spanish version of "The Star Spangled Banner." President Bush said our national anthem should always be sung in English. Do you agree with the president?

paradise-

unfortunately, this is a very emotional issue and now it's become politicized and mistakes are being made by all parties, in my view.

after years of turning a blind eye to enforcing laws that are on the books, bush decides at THIS time to conduct raids on a few businesses. Terrific strategy if you want to prop up plummeting poll approval ratings and further polarize people.

politically and stratecically, crafting a spanish version of the anthem with changes and asking that the anthem be translated, is the wrong message to send to the american people at a time when amnesty is being considered.

i have no issue with national pride day for whatever group wants to celebrate their heritage. assimilation into our culture and an understanding of the english language was a source of pride among my family and the various nationalities i grew up with.

i still believe it's important.
